As an ABA Therapist I often get asked the question “what can I do with my child when they are not in session?” Parents often look for fun activities or games that don’t involve a talk tools sequence or ABLLS programs. It is also difficult to find activities that are going to be enjoyable for younger and/or older siblings.
For families that are struggling to find fun activities, I highly recommend the book “Motivate to Communicate!” by Simone Griffin and Diane Sandler.
This book is packed with fun activities to motivate your child to engage with you and other children.
The book is very well organised. The introduction contains a few pages on how to create communicating opportunities throughout the day.
A nice idea would be to check your manding tar- gets and see what activities you can do and try to get as many manding opportunities throughout the day. The book is divided into sections around different reinforcers such as foods, social games etc. so you can see at a glance what type of activities you would like to try. The activities are very easy to read and understand and the materials are inexpensive and easily found.
A must read for the summer holidays. Have fun!
