LILY CARRUTHERS MSc
Board Certified Behaviour Analyst
Lily qualified as a Board Certified Behaviour Analyst in June 2017 and has been working in the additional learning needs sector for more than 10 years prior to gaining he qualification. Working with individuals on the autistic spectrum is her predominant area of expertise, but she has also supported individuals with learning disabilities, speech and language difficulties, brain injury and a range of physical disabilities.
As well as her professional relationship with ASD, Lily also has a personal one. From a young age she was required to support her two younger autistic brothers, one who had an ABA home programme for three years. Being involved in the ABA process form a family member’s perspective has given her unique insight into the day to day struggles of families striving to support a loved one with ASD, but also the joys that come with seeing progress, however small. Having your home turned into a work place can be testing and knowing how important it is to trust the individuals you let into it is something Lily understands from first hand experience and is conscious of in her day to day practise.
Her experiences over the last 10 years culminated in her studying for an MSc in Applied Behaviour Analysis and Therapy at the University of South Wales where she graduated with a Distinction. Since then (2015) she has been working within the field as an ABA therapist, clinical case manager and program supervisor/consultant within homes and schools whilst gaining her certification. She has extensive experience in teaching communication skills, functional living skills, classroom/daily routines, play skills, pre academic skills and creating individualised learning environments.
Lily loves ABA because she feels it has given her the tools to effect real change using evidenced-based, data driven strategies to help individuals overcome their barriers through positive, respectful means.
