Name: Jodie White
Job Title: Board Certified Behaviour Analyst (BCBA)
How long have you been at the company?
Just over 3 months now!
What did you do before and what made you choose Skybound?
I had previously worked as a self-employed ABA therapist in homes and schools when I first started in the field of ABA over 6 years ago. Although I had worked in an ABA training clinic since I qualified as a Board Certified Behaviour Analyst (BCBA) in 2019, schools and homes were always environments that I loved. When I saw the job advert for a BCBA at Skybound, I knew that I had to apply. When I was offered the job, I couldn’t wait to start a new challenge and help make a difference to people’s lives.
Where are you based?
Although Skybound HQ is in Pembrokeshire, I am based in Cardiff and The Vale of Glamorgan. I sometimes travel to Swansea and Bristol.
What’s a typical day like?
Since starting, I haven’t had two days that have been the same. Instead of getting stuck in a routine, I find that the variety is something I thrive off and keeps me motivated. Every day I get to see a different child, a different family, and a different team. I have had the opportunity to be both a supervisor and a consultant, work on both well-established and brand new programmes, and work both in-person and through online consultations.
What do you like most about the work we do here?
The bespoke services that Skybound offer is something that sparked my interest and I am grateful that I have been able to see first-hand how beneficial this can be for children and their families.
In the short time that I’ve been here, I have already experienced many new ways of working and have learned lots of new and exciting things. I particularly like how Skybound really follow the science and use a combination of different assessments and curriculums to best suit the child.
What kinds of resources have you taken advantage of so far?
Within a few weeks I had completed the PEAK training course, which I found incredible! It was really exciting to learn about an assessment and curriculum to teach concepts based on Relational Frame Theory. Although I have only recently become familiar with PEAK, I have already had the opportunity to be a part of teams completing PEAK comprehensive assessments with two different clients. This has been a great opportunity to put what I have learned into practice!
What do you think makes our team culture unique?
Just before Christmas, I attended one of Skybound’s biannual team building days where we went axe throwing. This was not only a great opportunity to meet others in person and have fun, but also an opportunity to really feel a part of the team. Throughout the rest of the day, we also got the chance to practice Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), which is something that my colleagues use frequently, but was relatively new to me. It was really empowering to see my colleagues use it so fluently and how helpful it could be. I was passionate to learn and have the knowledge that they do! I have since enrolled on the Happiness Trap training course which is based on ACT. I have already found it really helpful and cannot wait for each week where I get to learn more!
Any final thoughts?
Reflecting on my first three months at Skybound has made me feel very grateful for everyone I have been able to work with, and for how much I have been able to experience and learn. I am really excited for my future at Skybound!
