Job Description:

The Behaviour Support Worker will support children and young people with severe behaviours that challenge within a new, CIW-regulated children’s residential home. The service operates using therapeutic principles to provide short-term, specialist residential support.

The purpose of the role is to help children feel safe, understood, and happy, to bring enjoyment, laughter, and positive experiences into their daily lives, and to support meaningful behavioural change. This service is designed as an intervention to strengthen family relationships, with the clear aim of supporting children to return home and remain living with their families.

What you'll be doing:
  • Provide consistent, child-centred care in line with individual care plans, placement plans, and behaviour support plans
  • Build warm, positive, and respectful relationships with children, helping them feel valued and understood
  • Create opportunities for fun, enjoyment, and achievement, recognising the importance of making children smile and experience positive moments every day
  • Implement plans focused on understanding the function of behaviour and reducing behaviours that challenge
  • Ensure children’s voices are heard and respected in all aspects of their care
  • Support children with daily routines, education, health appointments, and activities
  • Promote social skills, independence, and emotional development appropriate to the child
  • Work in partnership with families, recognising the importance of maintaining and strengthening family relationships
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, managers, and multi-disciplinary professionals (e.g. social workers, psychologists, education providers)
  • Contribute to the development of a positive, consistent, and values-led service culture

What we ask of you:
  • Experience supporting children or young people with severe behaviours that challenge
  • Knowledge of safeguarding, children’s rights, and professional boundaries
  • Ability to remain calm, consistent, and resilient in high-pressure situations
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Willingness to register with Social Care Wales (or already registered) and work towards Level 2 Health and Social Care Qual
  • Flexibility to work shifts, including weekends and sleep-ins
