Right from the very early days of Skybound Therapies, we have used a unique combination of behaviour analysis and speech development methods to give a voice to many previously non-verbal children and young people. As a specialist provider of this type of therapy in the UK, we have witnessed the transformative impact it has had on their ability to communicate. While there is some research on developing speech in children with autism, it is very limited and there is a significant scarcity of scientific research examining the combined application of these methods.
So, we were thrilled to start work on a research programme, in collaboration with PhD student Sophie Bradbury, BCBA and the University of South Wales, to study these techniques and their outcomes for speech. Whilst we consistently observe positive outcomes in our use of these techniques in clinical practice, the research programme will help to increase the scientific evidence-base.
Stay tuned for upcoming blog posts, where we delve deeper into this exciting research. In the meantime, you can find out more about it in this fantastic article recently published in the local press.
