I have always enjoyed working with and supporting young people. During my time at school I would volunteer to help with summer sports camps where I was often supporting any children that had additional learning needs. I loved doing these camps and found it so rewarding to help children learn and develop new skills whilst having lots of fun playing sport. This led to me completing my undergraduate degree in psychology with the initial goal of becoming an educational psychologist. However, during my degree I had a module in ABA, and it felt like everything just made sense. The science and how it can be applied just clicked in my brain. When we had a guest speaker come in and tell us about the Masters in ABA at the University of South Wales I knew I had found my path. Unfortunately, my plans did get sidetracked due to Covid 19, however I was able to work in an SEN school as an LSA, which only gave me more experience working with children with a wide variety of needs. When I did complete my Masters in 2022, I found that so much I had been doing as an LSA was ABA and I didn’t even realise. My dissertation focused on the impact of PECS training in schools which I was particularly interested in due to my experience of doing PECS in a SEN school with very limited training.
After completing the Masters, I started a Postgraduate Diploma course at the University of South Wales where I began to collect my hours to be a Board Certified Behaviour Analyst. During my time completing this diploma I had placements across multiple settings including an early intervention service, mainstream primary school and an SEN secondary school. After finishing my placement at the early intervention service, I then worked there for a year as a Clinical Assistant. During this time, I was able to do a lot of work with PECS and seeing the amazing effect of teaching individuals a way to communicate their wants and needs and how much of an impact this can have on them. In this role not only was I implementing a variety of different skill teaching programmes, but as it is also a training clinic run by the University of South Wales I was able to help train and support many student volunteers to become behaviour therapists and trainee behaviour analysts. I developed an online PowerPoint based training system for new volunteers which I am very proud of as it really helped to maximise staff time and still provide efficient and effective training to the volunteers.
I started working at Skybound Therapies in September 2025 as a consultant and supervisor and I am loving my time here so far. I have learnt so much since starting here and continue to learn more every day!
