My passion for supporting others began long before my career. Growing up, I witnessed a close family member experience significant mental health challenges, which gave me an early understanding of the importance of compassion, patience, and the need for support. Seeing both the struggle and the positive impact that quality care can have inspired me to pursue a career where I could help others overcome barriers and reach their potential. I have always been a caring person, and from an early age, I knew I wanted a role where I could make a meaningful difference in people’s lives.
My interest in this field led me to study Psychology and Criminology Joint Honours at university. I was particularly drawn to psychology because I found human behaviour fascinating and wanted to understand why people think, feel, and behave as they do. The more I learned, the more engaged I became. Human behaviour continues to fascinate me, and I am always looking for opportunities to gain experience, develop my skills, and expand my knowledge. I strongly believe that continuous learning is essential to providing the highest standards of care and support.
After graduating from university, I made the move to Pembrokeshire from my home in Northamptonshire, and I joined Skybound, which became both my first role in the area and my first professional role after completing my degree. Over the past year, I have worked as a Registered Behaviour Technician (RBT), supporting individuals to achieve goals that are meaningful to them and helping them become more independent, resilient, and confident. One of my proudest moments was supporting a client to visit a hairdresser for the first time. What may seem like a simple experience to many people was a huge milestone for them. Watching them leave with a smile, showing clear signs of happiness, pride, and increased self-confidence, was incredibly rewarding and deeply moving. Moments like these are what make this work so rewarding and remind me why I chose this career. Alongside supporting clients, I am also proud of achieving my RBT qualification and continuing my professional development through the additional training and learning opportunities that Skybound has provided. My goal is always to provide compassionate, person-centred support that helps individuals live fulfilling lives and unlock their full potential.
